Whether you have been a Christian for awhile or have newly converted, there are first steps to take as a Christian.  God does not simply want you to accept Jesus Christ, then sit on the decision.  If you have already taken these steps, great!  If not, then read on.

  • Baptism.  Baptism is a public confession of faith.  It is not how to get into heaven.  If you have questions about how to get to heaven, see my page on how to go to heaven.  If you were baptized prior to accepting Christ (such as when you were an infant), you should be re-baptized.
  • Attend church.  Find a good, Bible-believing church.  There are a number of bad churches around, which you need to avoid (see my page on Western Christianity for some examples).  Remember, "Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: (1 Peter 5:8).  The church can help to give you the protection of the herd.
  • Read your Bible.  After all, how can you live a godly life if you do not know what one is?  The recommendation is about 15 minutes a day.  Although an hour a day may be better, you are likely to give that up in a short time.
  • Tell others about your decision.  Let others know about your decision.  This is not necessarily the same as evangelizing.  However, God does not want secret-agent Christians.
