Introduction
Transgenderism, which is either a male wanting to become a female or a female wanting to become a male, is presently a cultural issue in many countries. What does Scripture say about this?
Note that this webpage will discuss the Scriptural aspects of transgenderism, not the biological aspects or issues such as men playing on women's sports teams.
What Scripture Says about Transgenderism
God Created Humans Male and Female
And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them... And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day. (Genesis 1:26-27, 31)[1]
And it came to pass, that when Jesus had finished these sayings, he departed from Galilee, and came into the coasts of Judaea beyond Jordan...And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female, (Matthew 19:1,4)
Transgenderism says the God got it wrong so far as what gender He made an individual.
God Does Not Make Mistakes
Because I will publish the name of the LORD: ascribe ye greatness unto our God. He is the Rock, his work is perfect: for all his ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he. (Deuteronomy 32:3-4)
As for God, his way is perfect; the word of the LORD is tried: he is a buckler to all them that trust in him. (2 Samuel 22:31)
Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect. (Matthew 5:48)
As God does not make mistakes, He did not make a mistake as far as your gender.
Humans Are to Dress the Part
The woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man, neither shall a man put on a woman's garment: for all that do so are abomination unto the LORD thy God. (Deuteronomy 22:5)
How We Feel Can Be Wrong
Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil. (Proverbs 3:5-7)
There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death. (Proverbs 14:12, Proverbs 16:25)
How we feel can be wrong. We need to trust God, not our feelings.
We May No Longer Be Able to Obey God's Commands
And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth. (Genesis 1:28)
Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered. (1 Peter 3:7)
Transgenderism surgery or medications can cause changes that are irreversible, such as never being able to have children of your own, unable to obey God's commands such as that stated in Genesis 1:28.
